Every time we speak we are framing and creating our reality. Our words act as a kind of ‘modelling’ process that organises our perceptual systems to see and to sense the world.

Language is a kind of magic

We bring to life all kinds of realities and scenarios with just the way we talk. Words create feelings, mental pictures, physical sensations and relationships. Language is a kind of magic. Language creates meaning and tells our stories.

So how can we use our words with wisdom? How can our speech make a positive difference in the world, in our families and communities? How can we transform the way we are thinking about a situation, so that we can act more effectively and congruently? How can we understand others better and help them to be at their best?

This special programme on the use of language, framing and metaphor, is based in the tools and approaches of NLP that allow us to explore the connection of language and our nervous systems – ‘neuro-linguistic’ – and the subjective realities and ‘programming’ we construct.

  • Awareness of language and frames as a perceptual tool
  • Understanding of language for influence, and for problem solving with others
  • Creative experimentation in language -‘sleight of mouth’ reframing
  • Proper naming – the art of finding the right words at the right time
  • The NLP Communication model – being effective and congruent
  • Metaphors and stories in everyday life
  • Working to transform limiting beliefs – tools for change
  • Working with your ‘inner voice’ with gentleness and appreciation
  • Establishing ‘winning beliefs’ for performance and relationships

The programme will be lively, practical, accessible and interactive, with demonstrations, time for open questions, and exercises with partners and small groups.

As well as core NLP tools, we will draw from contemporary research in Cognitive Linguistics, and best practice in Generative Change approaches – and we will work in a way that has emotional intelligence and creative expression at its heart.

Learning more about language is just fascinating and rewarding in itself, and learning how to use language to find your voice, create happier relationships, define worthwhile goals, and a sense of the magical possibilities of life is truly transformational.

She was actively involved in the women’s self-defence movement and was one of the key pioneers at the Inner London Education Authority, in new approaches to building women’s confidence and well-being.
